Lux Noctis
Lux Noctis is an ongoing project depicting landscapes unbound by time and space. The work draws from planetary exploration, 19th century Romantic painting, and science fiction. We see beautiful images of familiar places every day. In contrast, I transform these scenes into undiscovered landscapes, renewing how we perceive our world.
The project uses drone-mounted lighting to illuminate remote terrains under darkness. I mount powerful LED lights to drones, creating halos of light that hover above ancient rock formations and glacial landscapes.
The work began in 2015 as an experiment in the Californian desert. Since then, it has evolved into a broader exploration of how we view our planet. Each image balances human presence with natural grandeur. Here, artificial light reveals rather than dominates the landscape.
These photographs often recall science fiction. However, their true purpose is to highlight the extraordinary features of our own world. By photographing these locations at night, I transform familiar landscapes into unexplored territory. As a result, viewers reconsider their relationship with Earth’s natural wonders. The project demonstrates that even in our thoroughly photographed world, new perspectives remain to be discovered.
